Woof Pie

This ugly looking devil is a woof  (or Wolf) – a type of catfish caught off the Yorkshire coast. Here’s a recipe for Woof pie from Scarborough.

  • 1 Woof
  • 4 – 6 oz (113 – 170g) lean uncooked bacon
  • 2 hard-boiled eggs
  • 1 small onion

  1. If you buy a whole fish, you need to boil or steam the fish first to remove the meat from the bones
  2. Season the fish meat and sprinkle a little flour over it
  3. Cut the bacon in to small pieces
  4. Slice the hard-boiled eggs
  5. Chop the onion
  6. Layer all the ingredients in a pie dish
  7. Add half a pint of milk (10 fl oz) to the mix
  8. Cover with shortcrust pastry and cook the pie in a moderate oven for approx 60 minutes
